Newsmax host notices Instagram shadowbanning his account: After Newsmax, a right-wing cable television news program, alerted one of its anchors, Carl Higbie, that it was unable to tag him in a post about his own show, Higbie said he began noticing some peculiar circumstances lending to the idea that Instagram may be shadowbanning his account. Shadowbanning is a type of backdoor censorship that suppresses the visibility of accounts and posts on a platform using a variety of techniques. For example, Higbie noticed that fake accounts impersonating him on Instagram were showing up ahead of his verified account when using Instagram's search function. "I'm a blue check mark with 20,000 followers, but any number of fake accounts with less than a 100 followers comes up ahead of me," Higbie said during a segment of his show. Among other things Higbie also said that he noticed "likes" of his posts had been dramatically reduced, compared to what he typically received, despite his analytics tool telling him that his posts with fewer likes were performing better than the posts with more likes.
