Legacy media, Big Tech and government agencies are trying to control the election narrative – again.
On this week’s episode of CensorTrack with Paiten, we looked at CNN anchor Jake Tapper’s suggestions that Big Tech censorship had a negligible impact on the 2020 presidential election and the government’s latest efforts to curb so-called “disinformation” ahead of the 2022 midterms.
Tapper mocked Republicans during the Oct. 7 segment of CNN’s The Lead who were upset with tech giants that attempted to muzzle Americans on their platforms during the tumultuous 2020 election.
“[T]here’s the ‘questioners,’” he whined, “And these ‘questioners,’ these Republican questioners, to me, a lot of them are people who know better but are afraid that if they don’t at least come out with ‘Oh, it was rigged in a different way, because Twitter wouldn’t let the New York Post publish, you know, publicize the Hunter Biden story,' or whatever– but they go along with it in a way that makes them feel comfortable, but they're still playing along with the lie. I almost find them more cynical players than the deniers.”
Contrary to Tapper’s claims, Big Tech censorship significantly impacted the 2020 election.
A 2020 MRC poll found that 45 percent of President Joe Biden’s voters weren’t fully aware of the New York Post story exposing alleged corrupt dealing involving him and his son Hunter precisely because the media and Big Tech whitewashed it. Had Americans been fully aware of the scandal, 9.4 percent of Biden voters would have abandoned him. This shift would have flipped all six of the swing states Biden won to former President Donald Trump, giving Trump a victorious 311 electoral votes and securing a second presidential term.
An MRC Free Speech America study found 140 instances involving users — including lawmakers, organizations, news outlets and media personalities — who were censored for sharing anything related to the bombshell Hunter Biden laptop story.
The impact that censorship of the Hunter Biden laptop story had on the 2020 presidential election is undeniable. However, Big Tech and Big Government are once again trying to control what people say about U.S. elections. This time, they have their sights set on running a protection racket for the left during the 2022 midterm elections.
The FBI and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) released a public service announcement Oct. 6. The PSA warned against the so-called threat “posed by attempts to manipulate information or spread disinformation in the lead-up to and after the 2022 midterm elections.”
As this year’s midterms approach, help us combat Big Tech censorship. We must call on Big Tech companies to mirror the First Amendment, provide transparency, clarity on hate speech and equal footing for conservatives.
