Google isn’t the only big tech company with internal issues.

Facebook apparently suffers from an internal ideological monopoly, where progressive thought reigns supreme. According to the New York Times, an employee published an memo inside Facebook, complaining that while the company “claims to welcome all perspectives,” they are “quick to attack--often in mobs--anyone who presents a view that appears to be in opposition to left-leaning ideology.”

100 employees apparently have agreed with the author of the piece, Brian Amerige, a senior Facebook engineer. Amerige has posted on his personal website that he follows the philosophy of Ayn Rand. In his memo, he wrote that employees must either “keep quiet or sacrifice your reputation and career” when you disagree with the rest of the company. He proposed that Facebook employees “debate their political ideas in the new group.”

However, other employees are arguing that the movement is “offensive to minorities.”

The Times states that this is a “rare sign of organized dissent within Facebook over the company’s largely liberal workplace culture.” However, while this movement is a good thing, other troubling things in the report stand out. In meetings, several employees argued that “Facebook, out of fear of being seen as biased, has let too many right-wing groups flourish on the site.”
