And the award for most biased online media goes to … the Big Four News Apps!
The morning after the 2026 Academy Awards, all articles about the event in the 20 top stories on Apple News, Google News, MSN, and Yahoo News came from outlets rated “left” or “lean left” by media ratings firm AllSides. While multiple right-leaning outlets covered the Oscars, they were completely shut out of the Big Four News Apps’ coverage, underscoring the consistent pattern of one-sided curation that MRC researchers continue to uncover.
Yahoo News featured only one article about the Hollywood event, an Oscars 2026 recap published by Yahoo itself, appearing as the sixth story on the page. Google News likewise promoted only one related article from NPR, headlined, “See the Oscars red carpet looks.”
Apple News and MSN each included several articles about the Academy Awards, but every one was from a left-leaning news outlet. For example, Apple News’s sixth article on March 16 was “‘One Battle After Another’ triumphs at 98th Academy Awards in coronation for Paul Thomas Anderson,” from the leftist The Associated Press (AP).
MSN’s third story was another AP article, “Billy Crystal and Barbra Streisand lead an emotional and expanded Oscars in memoriam.” The news site again highlighted Streisand with The Huffington Post story, “Barbra Streisand Gets Political With Robert Redford Tribute At Oscars.”
The Big Four News Apps' choice to exclude right-leaning outlets from their Oscars coverage is not for lack of content. Numerous right-leaning outlets covered the Academy Awards. For example, Fox News published, “'One Battle After Another' wins Best Picture, Michael B. Jordan earns Best Actor at 2026 Oscars.” The New York Post similarly had numerous articles and an op-ed about the awards ceremony headlined, “On Oscar night, Hollywood stars attack Israel, but silent on Iran.” The Daily Wire likewise published several stories on the star-studded event, such as “Hollywood’s Richest Stars Spent Oscars Night Claiming They’re Oppressed.”
Methodology: On March 16, 2026, MRC researchers examined the top 20 AllSides-rated news stories featured on Apple News, Google News, Microsoft's MSN and Yahoo News at approximately 8:30 AM ET.
