Over the first six days of Christmas, woke online news aggregators presented a smorgasbord of leftist news that was not in the least merry and bright.
Apple News editors did not promote a single right-leaning outlet in their top 20 articles for six straight days (Dec. 25-30). Google News and Yahoo News were not much better as each only promoted one right-leaning news article during the same period, two out of 360 articles coming from a right-leaning source. MSN mixed in a bare handful of 12 right-leaning sources on those same days, out of 120. The aggregators’ top 20 stories each day even excluded festive holiday stories from Fox News and the New York Post, which are among the most viewed sites in America.
MRC Vice President for Free Speech Dan Schneider said, “The new Big Tech News bosses are bent on manipulating Americans’ access to information. It is obvious to me that they are excluding right-leaning sites so that they can push a liberal agenda, not just over the holidays but all year round.”
Schneider has a point. All four aggregators promoted glum and Grinch-y stories for their top articles on Christmas Day. For example, Apple News’ top story on Dec. 25 was from leftist outlet ABC News with the headline: “Justice Department says it has 'over a million more' documents potentially related to Epstein.” The outlet quoted multiple Democrat congressmen bashing the Trump administration.
Similarly, Yahoo gave leftist Associated Press the top slot for its negative piece headlined: “Public release of Epstein records puts Maxwell under fresh scrutiny amid her claims of innocence.”
MSN tried to freeze Christmas cheer with the gloomy Los Angeles Times hit piece, “Hiltzik: The latest government inflation and GDP figures are worthless, and will be for months to come.” MSN’s only right-leaning article in its top ten for Dec. 25 was the depressing Fox News article, “Late-night joyride ends in disaster as driver smashes into towering Christmas tree on camera.”
As for Google News, its top article on Dec. 25 was from leftist outlet Axios, headlined: “Deadly storm pummels drenched Southern California.”
The emphasis on left-leaning sources continued through Dec. 30, with MSN promoting a few right-leaning sources but overall relying on left or center outlets like the other three aggregators.
Yahoo's top article on Dec. 30 was a Politico piece criticizing Donald Trump and promoting multiple Democrats angling for the presidency in 2028, including California Gov. Gavin Newsom. Google News gave the top spot to the left-leaning UK outlet The Guardian, for a piece bearing the headline, “Russia says it has moved its nuclear-capable Oreshnik missiles into Belarus – as it happened.”
Notably absent from the top 20 of all four aggregators on Christmas Day was the Fox News piece headlined: “Scavenger hunts, Christmas mass, Cajun fried turkey: Capitol Hill's favorite holiday traditions.” Also missing was the similarly festive “Christmas cheer from The New York Post.”
Methodology: During the time period Dec. 25 - 30, 2025, MRC researchers examined the top 20 news stories featured on the four news aggregators each day at approximately 10:00 AM EST. Researchers then used the AllSides media bias ratings, which categorize an outlet as “left,” “lean left,” “center,” “lean right” or “right” to determine the overall bias presented by the four news aggregators and calculate the results.
