Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) made the shocking claim that the government-directed efforts that pushed COVID-19 censorship were necessary and not an attack on First Amendment rights.
On CNN Tuesday, Clyburn attempted to justify the Biden censorship cartel while simultaneously complaining about the Federal Communications Commission’s investigation into ABC host Jimmy Kimmel for his distasteful comments about the Charlie Kirk assassination on public airways. He characterized the FCC investigation as much worse and totally different from an affront to free speech.
The representative’s comments came just after Google admitted to the House Judiciary Committee that it engaged in biased censorship at the behest of the Biden administration, which it called “unacceptable and wrong.”
The congressman tried to defend COVID-19 censorship while slamming Kimmel’s brief suspension. Clyburn sputtered, “I don't think they're the same. These weren’t jokes. This wasn't a TV show. This was a pandemic. And we didn’t need to have misinformation going out about this pandemic.”
Rep. Jim Clyburn says that it was a good thing when the Biden admin pressured social media to censor people because "we didn't need misinformation going out" about covid. He then says President Trump told people to "put Clorox in their veins," which is not a thing he ever said.

Ironically, he immediately followed up with his own false statement, accusing President Donald Trump of comments that the president never made. “There was enough coming from the president at the time, uh, what, ‘put Clorox in your vein,’” Clyburn accused. “That's the kind of foolishness Biden was [targeting].” Unfortunately for him, the First Amendment is not suspended or null during a pandemic, not to mention many of these censored individuals were scientific or medical professionals sharing evidence, such as Dr. Jay Bahattacharya and Dr. Robert Malone.
In contrast, on Fox Business “Mornings with Maria,” Kellyanne Conway highlighted the major public shift happening in favor of free speech after Google aknowledged and renounced its censorship problem and committed to significant future change in its policies. She criticized the fact that “these networks have a problem” as they were complicit in “digital companies… censoring, shadow banning and silencing President Trump and many of his MAGA allies, and they just admitted that under oath to Jim Jordan's committee yesterday.”
Conway suggested that this is still only the tip of the iceberg for mea culpas and accountability. She mentioned how multiple media affiliate owners decided not to carry Kimmel’s show due to viewer backlash. “It's a moral decision. It's a business decision. They're listening to their viewers,” she argued, just as Google is finally listening to users.
