Just how important is artificial intelligence to America’s future? The Trump administration’s focus on its development and Americans’ understanding of it provides a clue.

In an April 23 executive order, “Advancing Artificial Intelligence Education For American Youth,” the Trump administration described various AI policies and initiatives that it plans to encourage from industry-education partnerships to registered apprenticeships, and from professional and educator development programs to AI incorporation in kindergarten through twelfth grade education. To those ends, President Donald Trump established an “Artificial Intelligence Education Task Force” and issued a “Presidential Artificial Intelligence Challenge.”

President Donald Trump has already made clear that AI is a major U.S. priority. During his first week in office, he signed an executive order removing “barriers” to AI development and rolling back the Biden-era AI agenda. He also named David Sacks his administration’s czar for artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency, a newfound position which demonstrates America’s resolve in leading the way with the new technology. In furtherance of that effort, the Trump administration helped inspire billions of dollars of new AI investments in America through Project Stargate.

The most recent AI executive order geared toward AI education noted, “It is the policy of the United States to promote AI literacy and proficiency among Americans by promoting the appropriate integration of AI into education, providing comprehensive AI training for educators, and fostering early exposure to AI concepts and technology to develop an AI-ready workforce and the next generation of American AI innovators.”

Trump also ordered Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer to increase AI-related apprenticeships, and urged Secretary of Education Linda McMahon to further initiatives on AI education. He tasked McMahon with “reducing time-intensive administrative tasks,” “improving teacher training and evaluation,” “providing professional development for all educators, so they can integrate the fundamentals of AI into all subject areas” and “providing professional development in foundational computer science and AI, preparing educators to effectively teach AI in stand-alone computer science and other relevant courses.”

Trump‘s order stated, “The [Education] Task Force shall be responsible for implementing the policy stated in section 2 of this order and coordinating Federal efforts related to AI education, including the actions outlined in this order.” The executive order also instructed that the inter-agency task force come up with a challenge for multiple ages in geographical regions related to AI.

The Task Force membership includes the Secretary of Agriculture, Secretary of Labor, Secretary of Energy, Secretary of Education, the Director of the National Science Foundation, the Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy, the Special Advisor for AI & Crypto, the Assistant to the President for Policy and other executive departments and agencies that the Chair designates.

While understanding how to utilize AI is “critical,” as the Trump executive order notes, considering Big Tech’s penchant for censoring free speech and displaying extreme leftist bias, it is equally vital that AI companies be held accountable to promote free speech as AI is integrated into society.

As multiple artificial intelligence chatbots and technologies have shown, they have repeatedly censored information and displayed leftist bias. For instance, in March 2024, after MRC exposed Google Gemini’s blatantly false information about personal savings rates under then-President and presidential candidate Joe Biden and then-candidate Trump. Google tried to claim its manipulation of information to favor Biden was only “confusion.” Gemini also previously made headlines for refusing to generate images of white men and expressing skepticism about the atrocities Hamas committed against Israel on October 7, 2023.

Meanwhile, in May 2024, MRC researchers caught Meta AI bending over backwards to defend arguments in favor of censorship. And in January 2025, Chinese AI DeepSeek rewrote history about Chinese Communist mass murder in real time, according to show host Glenn Beck.
