Following Republicans’ 2024 election victory in taking the presidency and Congress, a top House Republican is promising an end to the censorship industrial complex.
House Judiciary Committee chair Jim Jordan (R-OH), who has investigated and exposed Big Tech-government collusion to censor, declared in a Nov. 13 X post that Americans’ constitutionally-protected free speech is “coming back soon.”
Jordan’s full post celebrated the return of basic American values. “Free speech. Border security. Safe cities. All coming back soon!” he said.
Jordan appears to be actively trying to make good on that promise. In a letter he sent to FBI Director Christopher Wray, Jordan sternly asked him to answer whether the FBI is still flagging online content for censorship.
According to an FBI analyst’s reported testimony to Congress, the FBI is still monitoring “social media posts by users, regardless of whether the users are American citizens or foreign actors, to search for ‘content indicative of criminal conduct.'” The bureau also reportedly gave Big Tech the “‘user name and the content’ of the posts,” Jordan’s letter to the FBI director explained.
Also, as part of the Facebook Files, Jordan and the House Judiciary Committee revealed that Facebook increased censorship of Covid-19-related speech after it received “pressure” from the Biden administration.
Due to these and similar efforts, Jordan is one of the recipients of MRC’s first annual Free Speech Awards this year.
Jordan has also experienced censorship himself. For instance, in March 2022, YouTube removed videos featuring the speeches and panels given at CPAC including one of Jordan’s, as recorded in MRC’s CensorTrack database. And, in Dec. 2020, Jordan shared a Spectator article on election irregularities that Facebook subsequently fact-checked.
Conservatives are under attack. Contact your representatives and demand that Big Tech be held to account to mirror the First Amendment while providing transparency, clarity on “hate speech” and equal footing for conservatives. If you have been censored, contact us using CensorTrack’s contact form, and help us hold Big Tech accountable.
