Anti-free speech Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom of California scaremongered about alleged “misinformation” online as he discussed his plans for artificial intelligence.
Pro-censorship Newsom brought up the buzzwords “misinformation” and “disinformation” during a short AI interview with Bloomberg. Leftists constantly label content thus as an excuse for censorship. He also referred to non-woke online celebrities as part of “micro-cults” and discussed asking AI to write a version of his State of the State speech.
Unfortunately, this anti-free speech angle on AI is hardly new for Newsom, who just signed an AI executive order. His efforts to attack the First Amendment and reinforce the government Censorship Industrial Complex through a concerning state law led The Federalist to state in July that Newsom was trying to be “Censor-in-Chief.”
“I really worry about the misinformation, disinformation… about what's happening with our country, but I really worry about these micro-cults that my kids are in,” Newsom blathered. His examples of these supposedly dangerous “micro-cults” included the popular commentator Dr. Jordan Peterson and podcast host Joe Rogan. The Governor also mentioned AI’s ability to impact elections.
But Newsom also championed AI, claiming he and his staff “use it all the time.” He joked, “it wrote a better State of the State than we did,” and added, “It walks us down paths we otherwise wouldn't walk. It allows us to see around angles that we may have missed… We have fun with Bard and compare and contrast it with ChatGPT.”
While Newsom said that he didn’t use the AI-written State of the State, his comments implied regular use of AI as a helping tool. Will AI end up replacing and taking the jobs of speech writers?
It is helpful context to know that popular ChatGPT has been exposed as programmed with a leftist and anti-Christian bias, with one study showing ChatGPT demonstrating leftist bias for 14 out of 15 questions.
