House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) just released the fourth installment of The Facebook Files, showing an FBI agent “lied.”
Chairman Jordan released the information accusing FBI Special Agent Elvis Chan of making false statements about the FBI’s efforts to cause Facebook to censor Hunter Biden’s laptop before the 2020 presidential election. Jordan shared the information in a thread on August 7 on X (formerly known as Twitter). Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg previously admitted to censoring the laptop story after FBI priming, but Jordan tweeted that Facebook asked the FBI about the laptop the day that New York Post published its Hunter bombshell.
The FBI had told Twitter the laptop was real, but when Facebook asked later that day, Laura Dehmlow, the Section Chief of the FBI’s Foreign Influence Task Force, said “no comment.” Yet the FBI knew the laptop was real, Jordan noted. Dehmlow admitted to the House Judiciary Committee that the FBI had “internal deliberations” about the laptop after the Twitter meeting. According to Jordan, a still-unidentified FBI official ordered agents to respond “no comment” about the laptop’s authenticity, despite definite knowledge of its veracity.
The FBI’s actions triggered social media censorship of the laptop scandal even while the Biden campaign worked to cause Intel officers to discredit the story, which they did, Jordan posted.
While Chan was testifying to Congress two years later, November 2022, he claimed that he “was confident” he didn’t participate in any Hunter-related meetings except the one Facebook exchange. Asked if he was “aware of any communications between anyone at Facebook and anyone at the FBI related to the Hunter Biden laptop story,” Chan answered “No.” Jordan labeled Chan’s answer as “COMPLETELY FALSE.”
In reality, Jordan continued, Chan had a “secret ‘follow up’ call” with Facebook the very day after the Post story came out. Chan also falsely claimed “no internal knowledge of [the FBI’s] investigation” of the laptop, which is the opposite of what he told Facebook. Chan did tell Facebook “there was no current evidence to suggest any foreign connection,” which was true; after all, the FBI had the laptop! But the FBI didn’t admit the latter information to Facebook.
As Jordan tweeted, “Is there any wonder why the Biden DOJ has so far stonewalled the Committee’s efforts to interview Agent Chan?” Chan’s contradictory statements expose the Biden administration’s “censorship-industrial complex.” Jordan promised ongoing congressional efforts to fight government-tech censorship.
A 2020 MRC study found that censorship of the Hunter scandals helped steal the election for Joe Biden.
