Discord bans trading and investment discussion community WallStreetBets: A stock trading and investing community of over 250,000 users was banned from the community discussion board platform Discord. "You know as well as I do that if you gather 250k people in one spot someone is going to say something that makes you look bad," WallStreetBets said in a response post on Reddit. "That room was golden and the people that run it are awesome. We blocked all bad words with a bot, which should be enough, but apparently if someone can say a bad word with weird unicode icelandic characters and someone can screenshot it you don’t get to hang out with your friends anymore." Critics have been skeptical of Discords timing, fearful it may be trying to protect wealthy hedge fund investors from smaller retail investors by blocking their means of communication during a time of great turmoil taking place in the markets. "To be clear, we did not ban this server due to financial fraud related to GameStop or other stocks," Discord said in a statement, according to ReclaimTheNet. "Discord did us dirty and I am not impressed with them destroying our community instead of stepping in with the wrench we may have needed to fix things," the WallStreetBets' response continued, "especially after we got over 1,000 server boosts. That is pretty unethical."
