Reddit mod bans user from subreddit for 'race denial' after explaining that standards for professionalism are not race-based: In the subreddit r/whoesomebpt users discussed the professionalism of particular hairstyles including afros. It appears one user insinuated that it is racist to deem an afro unprofessional. Another user, u/jibilerto, claimed that professionalism is inherently tied to appearance and not to race. "When anyone deviates from the normal professional appearance standards they get criticism," wrote u/jibilerto. "And that is because when you deviate from those norms it is a very thin line between still looking professional and looking bad. No race or gender gets to escape that." The user offered the example of braids, noting that the hairstyle is not necessarily unprofessional but that it can be worn unprofessionally if unkept. Reddit moderators flagged the comment for "racism denial and initially banned the user from r/whoesomebpt for 90 days. According to the user, the moderator extended the ban to a permanent ban after the user questioned the ban.
