Amazon blocked three episodes of SpongeBob SquarePants from being purchased digitally, or from being watched via its streaming service: Amazon has reportedly blocked three episodes of SpongeBob Squarepants from being bought, or streamed, via its platforms. The first episode, "Mid-Life Crustacean" aired for the first time on Nickelodeon in 2003 during season three. The episode, about a character's — Mr. Krabs — mid-life crisis, included a scene where another character — Patrick — suggested a "panty raid," which leads to SpongeBob, Krabs and Patrick entering the house of a woman, who also happens to be Krabs' mother, to steal underwear. Two episodes of SpongeBob Squarepants are aired within a 30 minute time-slot. Therefore, Amazon shoppers and streamers cannot watch “The Great Snail Race” either, which is the second episode included in the same show as "Mid-Life Crustacean." A Nickelodeon spokesperson told IGN that "Mid-Life Crustacean" had been "out of rotation since 2018, following a standards review in which [Nickelodeon] determined some story elements were not kid-appropriate." Nickelodeon responded "no comment" when IGN asked for the specifics of what made the episode inappropriate but IGN speculated it was the "panty raid" scene that caused the controversy. IGN also asked Nickelodeon if it ever considered placing a content warning label at the front of the episode rather than deleting it altogether, but once again the company responded "no comment." The third episode blocked on Amazon was titled, "Kwarantined Krab." That episode, which aired during season 12, "centers on a virus storyline, so [Nickelodeon] decided to not air it due to sensitivities surrounding the global, real-world pandemic," a representative from Nickelodeon reportedly told IGN in a statement. However, episodes of "Kwarantined Krab" have been circulating online in English indicating it was released at some point, according to IGN.
