Reuters reported that Facebook blocked then unblocked #saltbae without explanation: Turkish Chef Nusret Gokce's had the hashtag for his nickname 'saltbae' banned from Facebook. It appears the platform removed the hashtag after Gokce was caught on camera feeding a Vietnamese Communist official "steaks wrapped in edible 24-carat gold leaf," according to Reuters and a New Straits Times report. Reuters reported that "While it was blocked, a search for the hashtag generated a message saying community standards had been violated." Facebook "confirm[ed] the tag had been blocked for all Facebook users around the world, not just in Vietnam," however the platform allegedly "declined" to give a clear explanation of why the hashtag was removed, according to Reuters.
