Facebook censors MRC's Nick Kangadis for comment about New Zealand crime story: Nick Kangadis, an employee from the Media Research Center, was censored by Facebook over a comment he made on a Reuters story. The story summary read: "New Zealand police on Friday shot and killed a knife-wielding 'extremist' who was known to authorities, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said, after he stabbed and wounded at least six people in a supermarket." The story itself continued, "The attacker, a Sri Lankan national who had been in New Zealand for 10 years, was inspired by the Islamic State militant group and was being monitored constantly, Ardern said." It then quoted Ardern saying, "He obviously was a supporter of ISIS ideology." Kangadis, responding to the story summary that was the only part visible on Facebook without clicking to read the story, commented "And 'extremist.' So an Islamic terrorist? There, I fixed it for you." Facebook claimed that this constituted "Hate Speech" and deleted the comment. It further suspended Kangadis for 3 days. Kangadis appealed the decision, but Facebook upheld the censorship, indicating that he has the ability to appeal the decision again to the Facebook Oversight Board.
