Facebook removed YouTuber Matt Orfalea's video exposing remarks made by the leader of Netflix walkout: Matt Orfalea, a self-described "independent video creator, documentary producer [and] journalist," made a video exposing threatening and disparaging tweets allegedly made by transgender activist Ashlee Marie Preston. Preston recently led the Netflix walkout organized in reaction to jokes by comedian Dave Chappelle in his latest Netflix special, "The Closer." The video showed tweets Preston allegedly wrote over 10 years ago, which included threatening language toward Asians and inappropriate disparaging words toward the gay community. The video interspersed the tweets with footage from the walkout showing Preston complaining about "real violence," claiming that her career "has been about holding people accountable" and that her work "pour[s] social equity into these spaces." Facebook removed the video claiming that it "goes against [Facebook's] Community Standards on hate speech and inferiority," according to Orfalea's screenshots. Orfalea tweeted that he attempted to appeal Facebook's decision, but he said "immediately after appealing," Facebook "confirmed that [his] post didn't follow the Community Standards." Facebook's own Transparency Center claims the platform "allows room" for "content that includes someone else’s hate speech to condemn it or raise awareness." CensorTrack reached out to Facebook asking why it removed content explicitly allowed by its Community Standards but Facebook had not responded at the time of publishing.
