The Maine Wire

Facebook removes troves of posts by Maine newspaper: Facebook reportedly deleted 3,652 posts by Maine-based news and investigative journalism paper The Maine Wire. According to the paper, Facebook began removing posts by anyone linking to Maine Wire stories. The topics of the stories ranged from everything between reports of illegal Chinese owned marijuana farms in Maine to stories about the New England Patriots NFL football team. Republican Maine Representative Regan Paul's op-ed criticizing wind farms was also censored in the mass purge. When users tried to post links to The Maine Wire, Facebook delivered them a message saying the links posed a risk to cybersecurity on the site. "It looks like you tried to gather sensitive information from others," a notice sent to one user said. "This goes against our Community Standards on Cybersecurity." In response to this crackdown on his paper by Facebook, Maine Wire Editor-in-Chief Steve Robinson issued a pithy rejoinder. "Mark Zuckerberg is a lizard person," he said.
