Facebook removes Monty Python inspired Babylon Bee article, Demonetizes its page: The Babylon Bee took inspiration from Monty Python when it produced an article titled: "Senator Hirono Demands ACB Be Weighed Against A Duck To See If She Is A Witch." The article took direct quotes from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, changing them to fit the Amy Coney Barrett questioning by Senator Mazie Hirono. If a Monty Python riff isn't a clear enough indication that the article was complete satire, nothing is. But Big Tech have a history of treating The Babylon Bee as serious news, and Facebook didn't disappoint in that regard. Facebook removed the article, claiming that it was inciting violence. The article did mention that if ACB weighed as much as a duck, "she is a witch and must be burned," but it also gave an out with Mitch McConnell stepping in to stop the weighing, so no person or duck was actually burned in this fictional piece of satire. Therefore, it is unclear how Facebook could see this as inciting violence. Nevertheless, after appealing the decision, The Babylon Bee reported that Facebook stood by its decision, and the article would remain censored. In addition to deleting this post, Facebook also chose this incident to tip the scales away from the Bee, and has now demonetized the page. With over 850K followers, that will probably hurt. It seems Facebook needs to find its sense of humor...and maybe watch a few Monty Python movies to help it lighten up. Or at least the dead parrot sketch.
