YouTube deleted YouTuber An0maly's video citing CNN Medical Analyst Leana Wen on cloth mask efficacy and issued a strike on his account: YouTuber An0maly notified MRC Free Speech America that YouTube had removed his December, 2021 video and gave his account a strike for citing CNN medical analyst Leana Wen making an admission on the network that "cloth masks are not appropriate for this pandemic. It was — it's not not appropriate for Omicron. It was not appropriate for Delta, Alpha or any of the previous variants either because we're dealing with something that's airborne." An0maly followed the Wen clip by stating: "I could totally agree. But I'm not allowed to say that. I get censored when I say that so you say that on CNN. Whatever." An0maly also read a tweet by left-wing Washington Post blogger Jennifer Rubin where she summarized the contents of an op-ed she wrote: "As we recognize that covid-19 is not a deadly or even severe disease for the vast majority of responsible Americans, we can stop agonizing over 'cases' and focus on those who are hospitalized or at risk of dying."
After pointing out the apparent hypocritical switch in the COVID-19 narrative, An0maly summarized that "now you have Leana Wen saying cloth masks don't work because it's airborne; Jennifer Rubin saying that it's not a deadly disease and we need to stop freaking out over cases and the CDC director saying that the PCR test is not an accurate test in isolation because it could show you a false positive for twelve weeks after you were sick. Wake up folks!"
YouTube took down the video for allegedly "violating YouTube's Community Guidelines," according to a snapshot. An0maly called out the platform on Twitter for rejecting his appeal of the decision: "You rejected my appeal. Can you specify what part of it was medical misinformation? You are authoritarian scum bags & my presentation was more fact-based & careful than mainstream media reporting, which now compares Covid to the flu." YouTube responded to An0maly's tweet by claiming: "Thanks for reaching out – after a closer look, we see that your Community Guideline strike appeal was rejected for claiming that masks do not work. We recommend checking out our policy on COVID-19 medical misinformation for more info."
But, as An0maly pointed out in a follow-up tweet of the CNN clip he referenced in his video: "Hey liars (@TeamYouTube), I was referencing this CNN 'health expert' who recently said she thinks cloth masks don’t work live on TV. Am I not allowed to report on what she said? Are you embarrassed your cloth mask mandate hasn’t stopped record cases?"
An0maly later tweeted a separate video slamming YouTube's actions: " [YouTube] refused to correct their dishonest ruling even when I showed them proof in that video of the context of exactly what I was saying."
Following a separate incident in March, 2022 when YouTube targeted another of his videos, An0maly informed Free Speech America that his December 2021 video still had a "warning" label attached to it. According to his statement to Free Speech America, "So now whenever they lie and 'strike' me, i cant post for a week."
