Google removes Smart Voting app created by jailed Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny from its app store at Putin's request: According to reporting by ABC News, Google bowed to pressure from Russian leader Vladimir Putin and removed an app from its app store created by opposition leader Alexey Navalny that was designed to help unseat Putin in Russia's latest election. The idea behind the app was to find the alternative candidate with the most support and encourage all opposition voters to place their support behind that candidate, in an effort to garner enough votes to beat Putin. Instead, Putin easily won the election, while Navalny remains jailed for opposing Putin's leadership. Google also removed two related videos from its YouTube platform.
