Initiative #6: The Disinformation Governance Board
Type of Censorship: Policy or rulemaking
Agencies Involved:
- Department of Homeland Security
- Disinformation Governance Board (DGB)
Summary:
Under Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) attempted to create a ministry of truth, to be named the “Disinformation Governance Board.” The Board would have coordinated censorship activities for the DHS and strong-armed Big Tech platforms into suppressing conversations the administration disapproved of.
The Board was set to be run by Nina Jankowicz, a censorship activist who had been a vocal advocate for silencing reporting on the Biden laptop scandal, which she inaccurately claimed was a “Russian influence op.”
Key Individuals:
- Nina Jankowicz, DGB Executive Director
- Alejandro Mayorkas, Secretary of Homeland Security
