Biden’s censorship regime can’t catch its breath after being hit with yet another amicus brief from a legal watchdog group fighting for free speech.
The New Civil Liberties Alliance (NCLA) announced on August 7 that, along with the attorneys general of Missouri and Louisiana, it filed a brief asking the courts to reinstate a pro-free speech preliminary injunction in a lawsuit against the Biden administration.
Citing the onslaught of censorship against its own clients, the legal group is asked the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit to reinstate a preliminary injunction that effectively barred Biden officials from coercing social media platforms to assault free speech. In mid-July, the Fifth Circut ordered a temporary stay of the injunction but the NCLA argued that these efforts have infringed upon Americans' First Amendment rights.
The case, Missouri, et al., v. Biden, et al., marks one of the strongest challenges to the Biden regime’s Big Tech censorship collusion efforts. In a press release, NCLA cited the lengths to which Biden officials allegedly went to suppress free expression. The group explained, “Federal officials have threatened, pressured, and colluded with social media platforms in a years-long campaign to suppress perspectives that contradict government-approved views on hotly disputed topics like mask mandate efficacy, Covid-19 vaccine concerns and the virus’s origins.”
According to NCLA, Drs. Jayanta Bhattacharya, Martin Kulldorff and Aaron Kheriaty and activist Jill Hines — all clients of the legal group — “have been blacklisted, shadow-banned, de-boosted, throttled, and censored on social media.” As documented by MRC Free Speech's exclusive CensorTrack.org database, Dr. Bhattacharya's open letter against government-mandated lockdowns has been censored at least twice. Similarly, Dr. Kulldorff has encountered censorship on at least three occasions, with Twitter even locking him out of his account in May 2021.
The NCLA's call to reinstate the preliminary injunction against the Biden administration comes a day after Republican members of the House Judiciary Committee filed an amicus brief in support of the lawsuit. Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) endorsed the lawsuit after revealing damning evidence in the "Facebook Files," which exposes how Biden officials coerced Facebook into suppressing constitutionally-protected speech and then lied to Congress about it.
