Woke tech giant Google is harassing President Donald Trump — this time elevating his trials from almost two years ago instead of producing search results about Google’s own trial currently being litigated in California.
MRC researchers asked Google Search, “when did the trial start?” Instead of interpreting this question as a request for information on a current, ongoing trial, the search engine’s artificial intelligence (AI) overview immediately dredged up information on a 2024 trial of Trump for alleged hush-money payments. Outrageously, the AI specifically stated it was generating information on a recent case.
MRC Vice President for Free Speech Dan Schneider said, “I’ve been following the California trial against Google and Meta for weeks. When I tried to find recent articles about the trial, Google misdirected the query to outdated and stale news stories about the guy Google hates most: the President of the United States.”
Indeed, Google Search’s AI provided a stunning answer to MRC’s generic query. Google’s bot rambled, “Based on recent high-profile cases, the Donald Trump New York hush-money criminal trial began with jury selection on April 15, 2024, Time Magazine.” The AI added only, “If you are referring to a different, specific trial, please provide more context.”
The only website link that Google Search generated in its AI Overview was from leftist TIME Magazine.
In light of the search results at this critical time, Schneider said, “Over 1,600 children sued Google in this landmark case, claiming that the company intentionally addicted them to YouTube and caused depression and anxiety. If the jury finds for the children, it could end Google as we know it. But Google is burying the story and preventing most of the public from learning how it targeted children for profit.”
Google has AI contracts with the United States government, including a new agreement announced in December with the War Department for GenAI.mill. At the time, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth described the platform to combine AI and search as “put[ting] the world’s most powerful frontier AI models directly into the hands of every American warrior.”
Google is in fact currently in the midst of a high-profile and landmark court case. A group of 1,600 children are suing Google and accusing its video platform, YouTube, of being deliberately designed to be addictive.
Schneider declared, “This is the biggest trial Google has ever faced, and Google News has completely avoided it since the trial began 13 days ago.” Evidently it’s a complete blackout from Google, as Google Search and its accompanying AI Overview are avoiding the case also.
This isn’t the first time Google has gone after Trump. For example, in 2019, Google Search’s Images section brought up Trump‘s face under a query for “punchable face.” Then in June 2024, after a New York jury declared Trump guilty in a high-profile case filed by a George Soros-backed prosecutor, Trump‘s campaign website was the only one of the presidential candidates then still in the race which did not appear on the first page of Google search results when prompted.
In August 2024, as the election campaign season heated up, MRC found Google was still promoting Trump’s Democratic Party rival Vice President Kamala Harris in search results for Trump. In January 2025, MRC discovered that searches for Trump cabinet members did not include a single right-leaning source on the first page in 68% of general searches. And really to get an idea of where Google employees’ stand back in 2018, Breitbart found a 2016 video showing Google executives telling employees that the Trump election win “conflicted with many of the company’s values.”
Methodology: On Feb. 20, 2026, MRC researchers queried Google Search with the following: “when did the trial start?” The search was conducted using the Brave browser and VPN to eliminate prior search bias and cookies.
