Google’s artificial intelligence chatbot Gemini is biased and anti-free speech, but now the Big Tech company has added another target audience to push the AI on.
In a Wednesday blog post, Google proudly announced that Gemini CLI will bring the AI “directly into developers’ terminals,” increasing the “demand for integrated AI assistance.” But this new push raises red flags considering how Gemini has apparently been programmed to suppress and manipulate information with a leftist bent, as MRC studies have repeatedly revealed.
Google touted Gemini CLI as “an open-source AI agent” and a coding assistant that “provides lightweight access to Gemini, giving you the most direct path from your prompt to our model.” The AI can help with troubleshooting, code understanding and file manipulation, the tech giant bragged. Google’s ever-expanding uses for Gemini are potentially a threat to free speech, however.
Gemini made headlines last year for refusing to generate historically accurate images, including by depicting the Founding Fathers and Vikings as African and also generating images of “women” popes.
Equally bad, a recent MRC’s new study revealed that Gemini displayed antisemitic bias, refusing to confirm outright that Jerusalem is indeed the capital of the nation of Israel. “Israel proclaims Jerusalem as its capital city,” the AI hedged. “However, the status of Jerusalem is a highly contentious issue in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and its recognition as Israel’s capital is not widely accepted by the international community.”
Similarly, just before Flag Day and the U.S. Army’s 250th birthday (June 14), Gemini shockingly and unpatriotically claimed, “Yes, the American flag can be considered controversial, and its symbolism is often debated.”
Not only that, in April 2024, Gemini confessed that most so-called climate “misinformation” — or analysis which the left disagrees with — is protected free speech. The AI still offered an alternative argument for censoring such content. Gemini asserted “there are some limitations to free speech,” claiming “misinformation” can be “harmful.”
