A Canadian free speech advocate who has faced arrest in multiple countries came to the United States and praised the Trump administration’s stance against censorship.
Chris Elston, known as “Billboard Chris,” arrived in Washington, D.C., after a recent arrest in Belgium due to his opposition to trans-ing of minors and online censorship. He enthusiastically praised President Donald Trump and X owner Elon Musk, saying he was “incredibly thankful” to “amazing American friends” for upholding free speech when too many global governments, including his own home country of Canada, are cracking down on speech.
The Trump-led State Department last month slammed Australia for taking Elston to court over a social media post where he criticized transgenderism. While it is unclear exactly whom Elston met during his trip to the U.S. capital, he shared an image on X of himself outside the White House. “I’ve had a tremendous day of meetings in Washington, DC. Here I am outside the West Wing of the White House,” Elston mentioned.

Thank you to my amazing American friends who are putting in the work to advance free speech across the globe.

Elston excitedly added, “Thank you to my amazing American friends who are putting in the work to advance free speech across the globe. Children cannot consent to puberty blockers, and no government authority is ever going to stop this truth from spreading!”
He said it was “very worth it” for him to leave Europe ahead of his schedule to come to the United States. In fact, Elston was arrested and temporarily held in prison in Brussels, Belgium, last week, according to Fox News. He described himself as “incredibly thankful for America, for @elonmusk, for @X, and for the Trump administration,” adding:
“Without America, who would be standing up for freedom of speech in the world? The answer is no one, because nobody else is.”
Elston particularly called out the European Union, where he was recently arrested, for attempting to force social media companies to increase censorship online. “Europe has implemented dystopian censorship called the Digital Services Act, whereby they can order any social media content in the world taken down if it impacts a European and violates what they decide is against the rules,” Elston wrote. “Social media companies face a fine of 6% of their total revenue for non-compliance!”
Unfortunately, the European attitude toward free speech has spread to other countries as well. “I’ve already experienced similar censorship in Australia when their eSafety Commissioner order my factual post about [transgender activist] Teddy Cook to be taken down,” Elston clarified. “Now the unelected bureaucrats of the European Commission in Brussels want to control what 450 million Europeans can see on the internet, and control what the entire world can say.” He credits the Trump administration as the only major government standing against that tidal wave of censorship.
