Meta has delayed the launch of a new flagship artificial intelligence model, as concerns over its stated free speech reform continued to circulate.

MRC researchers have repeatedly shown that Meta’s products have an anti-free speech bias in the past, raising concerns about the new product even before the launch. The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that the launch was delayed as Meta’s engineers are “struggling to significantly improve the capabilities of its ‘Behemoth’ large-language model,” meaning the new model may not be distinctly different from other models. This could also trigger questions about whether the new model will be just as anti-free speech as previous ones.

Meta is currently facing a Federal Trade Commission investigation into its alleged anticompetitive practices. Also, despite Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg promising earlier this year to pivot toward free speech, his platforms continue to censor users, with Instagram and Facebook particularly standing out as some of the worst offenders in April, according to MRC’s exclusive CensorTrack database. All of this creates a controversial context for the delayed AI launch.

Meta’s AI has a history of suppressing speech and displaying leftist bias. MRC released a study last week showing that Meta AI used woke rhetoric and displayed leftist bias while analyzing the papal conclave and the new pope Leo XIV. Shockingly, in February, Meta AI defended CBS News anchor Margaret Brennan’s crazy assertion that free speech caused the Holocaust. In January, MRC exposed Meta AI for displaying strong pro-abortion bias on the day of the National March for Life.

Meanwhile, back in May 2024, MRC found Meta AI practically twisted itself into knots, claiming there were valid arguments for censorship of free speech. Although it did not cite the Constitution, Meta AI claimed “censorship is a debated issue, with valid arguments both for and against.”
