Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has launched a task force to investigate how certain intelligence agencies abused their power after pro-free speech groups, including MRC, requested transparency.
On April 8, Gabbard announced on X that she had created a new task force, “charged with transparency and accountability, to restore trust in the Intelligence Community and end the weaponization of government against Americans.” This comes just after America First Legal wrote to Gabbard to request that she declassify documents potentially exposing Big Tech and the federal intelligence community’s collusion to censor speech, a request supported and promoted by MRC Free Speech America.
The task force, which Gabbard said is called the Director's Initiatives Group, or “DIG,” is already “hard at work executing the tasks required by President Trump’s intelligence-related Executive Orders.” Gabbard continued that the DIG will be “ending wasteful spending, streamlining processes, identifying documents for declassification (Crossfire Hurricane, Biden’s censorship of Americans, documents related to JFK, RFK & MLK assassinations, and more), and leading ongoing efforts to expose the truth and root out abuses of power and politicization.”
The censorship documents at issue are a classified implementation plan for the Biden administration’s “National Strategy for Countering Domestic Terrorism,” according to AFL’s request for declassification. This strategy reportedly labeled free speech as “disinformation” or “domestic terrorism” and pressured Big Tech to censor the information. The House Judiciary Committee has more specifically accused the Biden-era DNI office of coordinating censorship.
Now, Gabbard aims to expose the previous administration’s secretive censorship. “President Trump promised the American people maximum transparency and accountability. We are committed to executing the President’s vision,” she declared.
