A Republican senator pointed out the free speech hypocrisy of Biden’s Secretary of State.
Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO) called out Secretary of State Antony Blinken when he took to X (formerly Twitter) to claim support for democratic free speech. “We don’t need lectures from you about Free Speech,” Schmitt informed Blinken on X Sept. 15, highligting the State Department’s troubling role in the censorship collusion with Big Tech.
“Democracy depends on the free and open exchange of ideas, including online,” Blinken posted Sept. 15. “On this International Day of Democracy, I call on governments around the world to protect citizens’ access to information that allows them to make informed decisions.” But Schmitt was quick to point out Blinken’s role in undermining free speech.
“Your State Department has censored Americans under the guise of stamping out ‘disinformation,’” Schmitt noted. “You personally led the effort to prevent Americans from learning about the H. [Hunter] Biden laptop/corruption on the eve of the 2020 election.” He added, “We don’t need lectures from you about Free Speech.”
During his tenure as the Missouri Attorney General, Schmitt launched a lawsuit against the Biden administration that uncovered evidence of government’s “vast censorship enterprise” with Big Tech. Blinken’s State Department has played a prominent role in that censorship enterprise.
For instance, the State Department-backed National Endowment for Democracy helped fund the Global Disinformation Index (GDI), which purportedly urged ad companies to drop news sites that reported information counter to the left’s preferred narrative on COVID-19 and its origins. Not only that, America First Legal (AFL) obtained damning documents through a lawsuit showing the Biden administration used the State Department’s foreign intelligence tools to censor Americans domestically, collaborating with Big Tech to censor speech.
