A leftist group funded by radical billionaire George Soros is boasting of its election-interfering censorship efforts with Big Tech ahead of the 2024 election.

The Soros-funded Common Cause, which ironically defines itself as “pro-democracy,” revealed its anti-free speech aims in an August 28 release titled “Election Disinformation in 2022 and What We Learned for 2024.” The report claims to have pressured tech platforms into censoring election content. The group announced a report on its ongoing anti-free speech campaign and claimed, “Election disinformation continues to pose a major threat to our democracy.” Twitter and Facebook censored speech flagged by Common Cause, according to the group’s report. The group specifically insisted upon censorship of allegedly “false statements” by 60 days before an election, and demonstrated its leftist bent by repeatedly claiming Republicans “promote election disinformation.”

Leftist billionaire Soros’s Open Society Foundations have given multiple grants to Common Cause and Common Cause Education Fund (its affiliate organization), increasing over time, for $195,000 altogether. That included $25,000 in 2016 and $95,000 in 2021 to Common Cause, and $75,000 in 2020 to the Education Fund.

Common Cause’s report hysterically mentioned the Jan. 6 “insurrection” and accused, “Right-wing partisan influencers, politicians, and activists alike used the popularity of election denial.” It boasted about previous efforts to instruct the media on how to report on the topic and to identify content for the supposedly nonpartisan Election Protection community (Common Cause’s election volunteers). There is no acknowledgment of Democrats’ censorship-triggering lies about the Hunter Biden laptop bombshell, a prelude to the Biden bribery allegations, or previous “election denial” in 2016.

The group boasted of its 2022 work “Identifying, Flagging, and Removing Election Disinformation,” noting that over 2,000 monitors submitted 3,825 content items, with 750 submitted on Election Day alone. Common Cause claimed it caused 300 pieces of content to be removed from Facebook and Twitter for the 2022 election. It also bragged of supposedly “Inoculating Voters Against Disinformation.” Big Tech platforms apparently disregarded the openly biased standards of Common Cause and proceeded to take cues from it.

Ultimately, however, Common Cause insisted that Big Tech platforms step up their censorship efforts ahead of the next election. “We know what platforms need to do to reduce the spread of disinformation,” namely “moderating” and “downranking” content, it wrote. The organization, which says it partners with more than 100 other entities at the state and national level, also expressed apparent dissatisfaction that former President Donald Trump is no longer banned on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter

While social media companies appear to have heeded Common Cause in previous elections, they should reject censorship demands now.

The report became steadily more woke, hyperbolically accusing spreaders of supposed election disinformation of building a base for the purpose of spreading COVID-19 and climate change “disinformation.”

Social media “heightens polarization in this country, fuels white nationalism and racism by providing a space to organize and radicalize,” Common Cause claimed. Common Cause revived the old, tired accusation that Trump sparked violence by challenging the 2020 election. It bashed Trump’s platform Truth Social and the much-censored film 2000 Mules. The organization further cited the partisan January 6 House Committee and alleged that Republican candidates were sharing unreliable news sources in 2022.

The report concluded with complaints of “social media platforms’ inaction” and a promise to provide a plan for combatting disinformation anyway.
