In congressional testimony Wednesday, FBI Director Christopher Wray stunningly boasted of his bureau’s supposed efforts to protect American free speech from Chinese censorship while blatantly ignoring the FBI’s own work to censor Americans’ speech. 
The House Judiciary Committee held a hearing July 12 to hold the FBI accountable. The committee grilled FBI Director Christopher Wray on his agency’s abuse of power including its involvement in silencing Americans. Shockingly, Wray’s opening statement specifically touted the FBI’s alleged efforts to protect Americans’ free speech from the Chinese Communists. But what about protecting Americans’ free speech from their own government?
Boasting about the FBI’s supposed dedication to protecting Americans, Wray discussed FBI activities against Chinese Communist Party (CCP) attacks. He said there are “thousands of active investigations” into “the Chinese government.” The CCP, Wray went on, tries to “steal our most precious secrets, rob our businesses of their ideas and innovation, and repress freedom of speech right here in the United States.” But the FBI is investigating and working to stop this repression of speech, Wray claimed.
In fact, Wray self-righteously added, “The men and women of the FBI work tirelessly every day to protect the American people from what is really a staggering array of threats.” Like the threats of censorship coordination from the FBI?
Wray is totally untrustworthy when it comes to assertions about the Bureau’s censorship or anti-censorship activities. For instance, the House Judiciary committee recently uncovered that his FBI colluded with a compromised Ukrainian intelligence agency to censor Americans.
Most telling of all, the FBI under Wray’s leadership “primed” Twitter to censor the Hunter Biden laptop scandal before the 2020 election, per The Twitter Files. MRC found that censorship of the Hunter Biden scandals helped steal the 2020 election for Joe Biden, making the FBI’s censorship priming an election-altering operation.
