MRC Free Speech America & MRC Business Vice President Dan Schneider gave a chilling warning about what leftists will try to use artificial intelligence to do in the online era.
Schneider went on Fox Business’s Varney & Co. May 30 to discuss the dangers of artificial intelligence (AI), suggesting that the left plans to “clean the internet” of conservative thought and replace it with leftist narratives. “Democrats in Congress and in the executive branch know that AI is the single greatest tool they’ve ever had to destroy their opposition,” Schneider warned.
The fill-in host asked Schneider how AI is “destroying conservative thought.” Schneider explained that the destruction hasn’t quite happened, but there is a “growing danger.” He said, “AI works by collecting all the data that’s out there in the universe” and synthesizes it into an average. “We know that the Big Tech oligarchs, who have a great history, a terrible great history, of destroying conservative speech, of censoring us, they’re the same people involved in writing the algorithm,” which is where the risk lies, Schneider noted.
He continued, “They’re already trying to—to clean the internet of our views. They’re trying to cancel us, and that’s going to be an ever greater threat when AI eliminates our perspective in their search results.” Censorship will be even easier.
Action is needed immediately, Schneider emphasized. “Well, Congress needs to act right away,” he said. “Democrats in Congress and in the executive branch know that AI is the single greatest tool they’ve ever had to destroy their opposition, to destroy the very idea that America was founded on.”
AI could be used for good, but it will be used “against us” just as censorship was weaponized against conservatives. “But this is going to be an even greater threat than social media silencing us. This is going to be substituting their truth, the left-wing truth, for our truth.”
Google co-founder Larry Page already stated his aim for AI to be a “digital god,” to “give the ‘right responses,’” Schneider said. “Not the truth that the rest of us can discern on our own.” An objective alternative to Google is Tusk, Schneider added.
Even as experts warn about rushing AI development, Big Tech companies are speeding ahead with AI tools.
