Trump AI and crypto czar David Sacks has intensified scrutiny of ties between the former Biden officials and Anthropic after resurfaced comments from venture capitalist Marc Andreessen reignited debate over how the previous administration approached the development of AI.
In an X post that garnered nearly 60 million views Sunday, Sacks highlighted that Biden-era AI staffers went to work for Anthropic while responding to the 2024 video of Andreessen criticizing what he called the administration’s “absolutely horrifying” push to centralize AI.
“True,” Sacks said in response to Andreessen’s comments about the Biden administration’s attempt to seize control of AI. He later added, “And guess where those Biden AI staffers went to work as soon as the admin was over? Anthropic.”

Dan Schneider, MRC’s vice president for Free Speech, echoed Sacks’s comments — saying he now understands “why Biden's admin awarded grants to AI programmers to create algorithms eliminating right-leaning media.”
The clip Sacks and Schneider referenced featured Andreessen speaking with Bari Weiss on the Honestly podcast in December 2024. In it, Andreessen said that the Biden-era policy toward AI start-ups was that they were “not going to be allowed to exist.”
Andreessen also said that his team had been warned against funding AI start-ups because the government planned to limit the technology to a handful of Big Tech companies under their direct control.
As noted by Sacks, the officials behind that aggressive agenda have since been hired by Anthropic, the same company that sought to limit the Trump administration’s use of its AI technology for military operations.
President Donald Trump addressed the dispute in a Feb. 27 Truth Social post, accusing Anthropiic of making the “DISASTROUS MISTAKE” of “trying to STRONG-ARM the Department of War, and force them to obey their Terms of Service instead of our Constitution.”
Accusing Anthropic of risking American lives, Trump added, “I am directing EVERY Federal Agency in the United States Government to IMMEDIATELY CEASE all use of Anthropic’s technology.”
That backdrop renewed attention to Andreessen’s 2024 warnings. He described Washington meetings between government officials and tech leaders where, as he recounted, Biden officials said:
“AI is going to be a game of two or three big companies working closely with the government. And we’re going to basically wrap them in a government cocoon. We’re going to protect them from competition. We’re going to control them and we’re going to dictate what they do.”
Notably, as previously reported by the Media Research Center, the Biden-led State Department, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Executive Office of the President colluded to impose anti-free speech codes on the AI development, including through State Department grants of over $3 million to crush alleged mis- and disinformation and “hate.”
